The role
This role sits on Vercel's Core team and focuses on the visual identity of a developer platform now serving both people and AI agents. The designer builds memorable brand moments and the systems that let them scale, across screens, motion, and physical formats. It blends strategic direction with hands-on prototyping, working closely with engineering, marketing, and product design.
What you would do
- Own creative direction for major launches, campaigns, events, and internal programs, including moments not yet mapped out.
- Shape the core visual vocabulary: type, color, composition, icons, imagery, motion, and how the product brand expresses itself.
- Produce work spanning screens, animation, dimensional pieces, social feeds, printed matter, merchandise, and physical environments, picking the form that suits each story.
- Move between Figma and code, using AI-assisted tools to prototype and test new expressive ideas.
- Create and maintain a brand system that stays fresh as it grows, turning it into templates, components, and final-ready files.
- Carry projects from first concept through finished production, handling file prep and implementation specs.
- Judge when motion, dimensional work, code, or emerging tech adds real value versus when a plainer approach works better.
- Set a common visual language spanning product, marketing, and internal communications, scalable from daily use to large moments.
- Work with design engineers to refine prototypes into polished interactive pages.
- Oversee external vendors such as agencies, contract creatives, photo and illustration talent, and print shops when work goes past in-house skills.
- Argue for creative direction in front of stakeholders by tying design choices to commercial and audience outcomes.
What they asked for
- Five or more years working in branding, marketing, or visual design.
- A portfolio that shows taste, systems-level thinking, and delivery across formats, including how work reached production.
- Refined typographic and layout judgment with a close eye for spacing, hierarchy, and alignment.
- Working knowledge of storytelling, brand architecture, composition, motion, and interactive experiences.
- Routine use of AI tools across the whole creative process, including reading, fixing, and iterating on code.
- Hands-on familiarity with v0, Cursor, Claude Code, or similar environments for building working prototypes.
- Working ability with web markup, stylesheets, and scripting, enough to polish machine-written front-end code to a demanding visual and interaction bar.
- Production fluency across web and print: responsive layouts, asset handoff, print preparation, environmental graphics, and vendor coordination.
Nice to have
- Experience inside developer-focused or high-growth software companies.
