Postgres Engineer (AMER)

The role

This role sits on the Postgres team at a developer backend platform and focuses on the hosted database product that customers rely on. The engineer works across customers, partners, and internal teams to keep the foundation secure, fast, and feature-complete. Americas time-zone overlap is required because of production support and on-call shifts.

What you would do

• Write and maintain Postgres extensions in C and Rust with close attention to core engine subsystems
• Investigate failures in managed deployments, including extension crashes, core dump analysis, and slowdowns
• Run and evolve deployment pipelines that are safe to re-run across a very large instance fleet
• Keep extension ecosystems compatible through version upgrades and resolve clashes between them
• Build reliable features on top of background workers, shared memory, and hooks
• Partner with customer-facing, support, and product teams to protect stability and performance

What they asked for

• Strong grasp of Postgres internals such as the planner, executor, and storage layer
• Hands-on history shipping extensions in both C and Rust
• Working knowledge of row-level security, roles, and grant mechanics
• Experience diagnosing live production problems in managed Postgres environments
• Comfortable testing and owning repeatable deployments across thousands of instances
• Able to read and reason through Postgres source code independently
• Prior work with multi-tenant database designs
• Track record operating Postgres at significant scale
