The role
This role sits between the product and infrastructure teams and focuses on making deployments and upgrades more reliable. The engineer co-owns the build and release pipeline for a public repository that produces container and machine images so the platform can run both in the cloud and locally.
What you would do
- Package components into the public Postgres build repo using Nix flakes or Debian packaging, depending on the target
- Help move release processes toward self-service so developers can ship on their own over time
- Extend CI workflows, internal tooling, and test and release practices
- Keep PostgreSQL major, minor, and extension versions current on a regular schedule
- Find and fix production problems inside customer deployments before they escalate
- Write best practices, tooling, and tests that lower deployment risk over time
- Partner with other teams to trace Postgres stability issues back into build, test, and release steps
- Talk with customers regularly to confirm the solutions fit their needs
- Triage and resolve issues raised on GitHub and through support
What they asked for
- Deep working knowledge of PostgreSQL and its surrounding ecosystem, including extensions, performance tuning, and sound practices
- Proven background in managing and optimizing infrastructure and its tooling
- Self-driven, proactive about finding problems, and effective in asynchronous work across time zones
- At least three years of hands-on PostgreSQL experience
- Working knowledge of configuration automation, Nix and flakes, machine image builders, containers, virtualization, AWS, and Kubernetes
- Ability to build on Linux and on Apple Silicon macOS targets
- Experience building C/C++, Go, JavaScript, and Rust projects, both conventionally and through Nix
- Comfort operating within a mixed packaging model that combines conventional and Nix-based systems
- Willingness to teach other engineers Nix-based workflows and help them troubleshoot the wider stack
Nice to have
- Experience with PostgREST, GoTrue, and other components of the Supabase stack
- Contributions to major open-source projects in the PostgreSQL space
