The role
This role sits within the platform engineering group and focuses on the foundational services that support the company's full backend offering. The engineer designs, ships, and keeps running large-scale systems, collaborating closely with product teams from early design through production rollout.
What you would do
- Architect and code distributed services and interfaces that underpin the platform
- Drive efforts to raise throughput, uptime, and efficiency of existing infrastructure
- Construct data-heavy processing jobs and event-triggered pipelines
- Define and steward reliability targets for services and take part in incident handling and retrospectives
- Enhance visibility into system behavior through instrumentation of metrics, logs, traces, and profiling
- Help refine deployment automation and release practices to enable safe, fast shipping
- Work alongside product groups to bring features from proposal through to live operation
- Produce design proposals, RFCs, and thorough automated tests
What they asked for
- Hands-on background designing and running distributed systems, including sound grasp of consistency, fault isolation, data sharding, agreement protocols, and flow control
- Working knowledge of TypeScript and/or Go, ideally backed by five or more years shipping production services (other languages considered)
- Practical experience with cloud platforms (AWS a plus) and container scheduling systems
- Understanding of multi-tenant designs, interface design, and data modeling
- Solid grasp of networking basics and security good practices
- Hands-on use of infrastructure-as-code tooling, with Pulumi preferred and Terraform or CDK acceptable
- Willingness to join on-call coverage for high-volume production environments
Nice to have
- Familiarity with Postgres engine internals, logical replication, or change data capture pipelines
- Exposure to mesh networking layers, identity tied to workloads, or perimeter-less security models
- Performance tuning and forecasting resource needs
- Contributions to open-source projects focused on systems, data stores, or language runtimes
