Director of Engineering, Brokerage Platform

The role

This role leads one of the company's largest engineering organizations, the backbone that handles trade execution, market data, settlement, and clearing for all asset types. The director owns technical strategy and delivery across four interconnected teams while working closely with a TPM and partnering with trading, crypto, and active-trader product groups. The position is based in Menlo Park with five days a week in office.

What you would do

• Set technical direction and delivery standards for four brokerage platform teams
• Grow and manage a large distributed group of senior and staff engineers and engineering managers
• Choose and fund modernization and reliability investments tied to business outcomes
• Work with a TPM to triage heavy inbound demand and protect engineering focus
• Keep always-on market-critical systems healthy and ready for high-severity incidents
• Represent platform roadmap and dependencies to product, operations, and executive leaders
• Drive large technical-debt and re-architecture efforts such as multi-region scaling and infrastructure abstractions

What they asked for

• 15+ years of software engineering experience including 6+ years in engineering leadership
• Prior director or senior director experience running multi-team engineering organizations
• Hands-on background building foundational backend platforms at scale
• Experience leading teams through major production incidents in an always-on environment
• Solid grounding in distributed systems, scalable backend services, Go or Python, and cloud infrastructure

Nice to have

• Depth in financial services, trading, brokerage, or other high-criticality domains
• Record of platform modernization bets that produced measurable results
• Background at high-performance fintech, crypto, or large consumer platform companies
