The role
This role sits on the compute platform team at Replit, where engineers build the cloud services that the Replit Agent relies on to create and deploy applications. The work spans launching new infrastructure offerings, improving performance across global regions, and tightening cloud spend. It is a hybrid position based in Foster City with in-office days on set weekdays.
What you would do
- Build new cloud offerings that the AI agent uses to assemble complex applications
- Partner with other teams to design and ship developer-facing infrastructure features
- Hunt down performance constraints and refine key request paths
- Set up monitoring and alerting that catches problems early
- Coordinate with the SRE group to keep services available with little interruption
- Review cloud spending and pursue savings without sacrificing speed or dependability
- Apply resource sizing, automatic scaling, workload-aware scheduling, and data retention policies
What they asked for
- Hands-on experience with platform services, distributed storage, or search/retrieval systems
- History of designing large-scale architectures and tuning them for speed or cost
- Able to solve hard problems pragmatically and deliver in small, steady steps
- Works independently, sets own priorities, and takes ownership of outcomes
- Comfortable moving across multiple layers of the stack as needs change
- Keeps learning new technologies and adapts quickly to change
- Has built scalable distributed systems, not just general backend services
- Willing to join an on-call rotation with a team of at least six people
- Comfortable working close to the operating system level on Linux
Nice to have
- Background in cloud or platform products around app deployment, serverless, or container orchestration
- Working knowledge of Google Cloud services such as compute engine, kubernetes engine, serverless container runtime, or object storage
- Open-source contributions in cloud, deployment tooling, or developer tools
