Design Engineer

Senior front-end builder who bridges design and engineering to evolve the internal component library and craft polished, performant interfaces for an AI app-creation platform.

The role

This role sits between product design and engineering on a team building an agent-driven tool that lets non-programmers make software. The person will steer how the in-house component library is implemented, prototype new interaction ideas, and push the front-end foundation forward. Work is split across a hybrid schedule with set in-office days.

What you would do

  • Build sophisticated interface components that weigh visual polish against runtime efficiency
  • Own the technical direction and ongoing growth of the company's internal component library
  • Prototype unfamiliar interaction patterns to test whether design ideas hold up
  • Work hand-in-hand with product designers to match mockups down to fine detail
  • Set front-end conventions and component structure that other teams follow
  • Coach engineers on design thinking and how to implement it well
  • Build internal tooling that smooths the handoff from design files to code
  • Weigh in on design reviews, focusing on what can realistically be built
  • Advocate for interfaces that are inclusive, adapt to screen size, and load quickly

What they asked for

  • Eight or more years building front-end products with a clear eye for design
  • Advanced command of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript or TypeScript
  • Hands-on experience with modern component frameworks, React being preferred
  • Solid grasp of design systems and how component-based code is organized
  • Track record shipping intricate motion and interaction work
  • Ability to turn design intent into code that runs in production
  • Clear written and verbal communication across design and engineering
  • Working knowledge of accessibility standards and applying them in practice

Nice to have

  • Already uses the platform regularly and cares about making software creation easier for everyone
  • Past work on design or developer tooling
  • Interest in or background with AI systems
  • Contributions to open-source design systems or UI libraries
