Product Manager (ex-founder or ex-product engineer)

Discovery-focused PM role owning analytics, retention, and commercial strategy across a small product team at a remote developer-tools company.

The role

This role sits within a small autonomous engineering team and centers on data analysis, user conversations, and commercial decisions for one or more products. The PM supports product direction through monthly metric reviews and competitive research rather than managing delivery.

What you would do

  • Run monthly metric reviews for assigned products and flag trends worth investigating
  • Analyze usage and revenue patterns across customer segments to explain churn and retention
  • Lead competitive and market research, recommending pricing, feature, or expansion opportunities
  • Conduct user interviews and bring engineers along to hear feedback directly
  • Take on ad hoc data investigations or packaging and pricing work based on judgment about impact
  • Coach engineers on product thinking and UX decisions for new concepts

What they asked for

  • Prior experience as a technical founder or as a product engineer at a startup
  • Strong product sense for spotting strengths and weaknesses in both UX and commercial terms
  • Solid grasp of product and business metrics such as activation, retention, and churn
  • Comfortable writing SQL or other query languages to answer data questions
  • Proactive and organized, able to drive several workstreams without direction
  • Hands-on familiarity with observability tools and how engineers use them to debug production issues

Nice to have

  • Experience product-managing an observability product
  • Data modeling experience beyond querying
  • Background in developer tools or AI products
  • Prior hands-on user interviewing
  • Experience working alongside designers or engineers on new user experiences
