Principal Product Marketing Manager - Competitive

Senior individual-contributor PMM who will set up and run Fin's competitive function, covering positioning, intel, and sales-facing plays in San Francisco.

The role

This role sits within Fin's product marketing group and focuses on how the product wins against rivals. The work is weighted heavily toward competition for now, with a plan to widen into sales plays and seller enablement as the function matures. The person will collaborate closely with sales leadership, research, solutions engineers, and enablement teams.

What you would do

  • Build Fin's competitive capability from scratch, covering intel gathering, messaging, and a process that informs sellers without overwhelming them.
  • Craft the differentiation story against top-tier rivals and get it into campaigns, collateral, and live seller conversations.
  • Launch a durable, AI-assisted intel practice jointly with analysts, sales engineers, and go-to-market strategy staff.
  • Turn competitive guidance into usable tools such as battle cards, play sheets, and objection responses that sellers actually adopt.
  • Analyze lost and won deals, buyer interviews, and external signals to recommend shifts for product, marketing, and target-customer decisions.
  • Shape proactive plays and campaigns aimed at improving win rates rather than only reacting to losses.
  • Over time, widen scope into sales playbooks and seller training to strengthen how the team competes against any alternative.
  • Personally produce core product marketing materials and maintain the structured competitive knowledge base that powers AI workflows.

What they asked for

  • Seven-plus years in PMM, competitive intel, or solutions-focused marketing within B2B software.
  • Track record owning competitive strategy end to end, ideally having built a competitive function from nothing.
  • History of converting buyer research and loss analysis into strategy that changed sales approach or product direction.
  • Proven creation of field-facing content, with a clear view of what succeeded or fell short and why.
  • Experience working in fast release cycles where messaging must keep pace with shipping, without sacrificing rigor.
  • Precise, persuasive writing across briefs, narratives, and synthesis documents.
  • Editorial sharpness: distinguishes concrete positioning from vague marketing copy and pushes for specifics.
  • Hands-on technical curiosity, reads documentation, uses the product, and understands AI differentiation across models, applications, and infrastructure.
  • Fluent with AI tools in daily work and actively looks for ways to work faster.

Nice to have

  • Experience marketing AI-driven customer service or support software.
  • Comfort advising sales leadership on why deals are being lost.
