The role
This role sits on the iOS team of a small group recently folded into Instacart, which builds phone-camera computer vision and AR products. The engineer would own a native Swift SDK and the companion app, working alongside product, design, data science, and backend peers. The position is hybrid, with three in-office days per week in Israel.
What you would do
- Maintain and grow a Swift-based SDK that adds AR shelf scanning
- Work on the recognition core, spanning scene understanding through on-device model inference and release
- Create computer vision pipelines using Apple's image analysis and ML tooling
- Build AR interactions on ARKit for live shelf scanning
- Bundle the SDK for distribution with correct signing and version control
- Handle App Store release steps and beta distribution
- Shape public interfaces and documentation that outside developers will consume
- Tune performance of live on-device inference
- Carry features from design through phased rollout, monitoring, and incident response
What they asked for
- At least three years building native iOS apps in Swift
- Prior experience shipping iOS SDKs, including packaging, API design, and docs
- Working knowledge of App Store Connect, TestFlight, and the submission workflow
- Comfort with ARKit-based AR experiences
- Practical use of on-device ML frameworks such as CoreML
- Familiarity with Apple's image analysis framework
- Strong debugging and profiling habits with Apple's performance tools and GPU debugger
Nice to have
- Computer vision work outside Apple's own frameworks
- Background in retail technology or inventory systems
- Bridging native SDKs into React Native or Expo
- Experience automating builds and releases with Fastlane
