GitLab

Senior Fullstack Engineer, Marketing

A senior engineer role building server-side services and APIs for GitLab's go-to-market and growth platforms, with occasional frontend work and influence over technical direction.

The role

This position focuses on the backend foundations behind GitLab's go-to-market and audience-growth tooling. The engineer helps decide what gets built and how, guiding work from early scoping through to stable production operation. Frontend contributions are welcome when a project needs them.

What you would do

  • Create and maintain server-side services and endpoints that power go-to-market and growth tooling
  • Pick up frontend tasks when a feature or project requires it
  • Set technical direction for owned systems, weighing in-house builds against external products and balancing delivery speed with upkeep
  • Find and fix bottlenecks and fragile spots in backend code before end users run into them
  • Assess peers' code and design proposals and give constructive feedback
  • Coach junior engineers on the team
  • Write down architecture choices and backend structure so others can extend the work independently

What they asked for

  • Proven history of running backend services in live environments
  • Working full-stack ability across Vue, Node.js, Go and Ruby
  • Hands-on depth in service architecture, endpoint design, schema modeling and query tuning
  • Independently weighing competing technical options and their downsides
  • Able to keep pace when deadlines shift because of campaigns or launches
  • Writes clearly, producing design records that let distributed colleagues move forward without real-time sync
  • Collaborates proactively; experience from platform, data or product engineering is valued

Nice to have

  • Background building marketing, growth or GTM-oriented systems such as web properties, content tools or campaign tooling
  • Familiarity with operating in fully remote-first organizations
  • Experience guiding engineers and steering technical direction beyond one's own tasks
  • Ability to explain technical trade-offs to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders
