Figma

Data Platform Engineer

Build shared data platform tooling and ML-ready infrastructure at Figma, letting teams ship pipelines faster while raising reliability across analytics and AI products.

The role

This role sits on the Data Engineering team and centers on the foundational systems that feed Figma's analytics, data science, and AI-driven features. The engineer will help shape an emerging ML and data platform, working where data, infrastructure, and machine learning meet. Positions can be filled from a US hub or fully remote within the United States.

What you would do

  • Develop and extend the company-wide data platform used by analytics, data science, and product teams
  • Speed up data engineering work by improving local environments, automated testing, release pipelines, and staging
  • Provide self-service tooling so teams can build, ship, and run dependable data workflows independently
  • Raise the dependability of key data systems via monitoring, quality checks, incident handling, and performance work
  • Make datasets easier to discover by defining terms, assigning ownership, tracing lineage, and setting reliability expectations
  • Coordinate with peer data, infrastructure, science, research, security, and product groups to set boundaries and supported patterns for varied data delivery modes

What they asked for

  • Five or more years running production data systems, developer tooling, or distributed architectures
  • Solid software engineering background, with Python or a comparable language, and a history of building resilient, scalable services
  • Hands-on work refining developer processes such as dev environments, testing, delivery pipelines, scheduling, or deployment
  • Familiarity with contemporary data infrastructure including cloud warehouses, transformation tooling, workflow schedulers, infrastructure-as-code, and observability platforms
  • Proven record of fully owning shared platforms, driving unclear multi-team initiatives, and explaining technical tradeoffs clearly to varied partners

Nice to have

  • Prior experience supporting machine learning or research data pipelines
