Frontend Product Software Engineer, Design Systems

Front-end engineer building and evolving Dropbox's component library while creating AI agent tooling that speeds up design-to-code handoffs.

The role

This role sits on the Design Systems team, which supplies the shared UI foundation used across Dropbox products. The engineer maintains reusable components and also builds automation that connects designers' output to production code. Work is framed as experimental, with emphasis on turning AI-driven ideas into dependable internal systems.

What you would do

  • Maintain and extend the shared UI components that underpin the design system
  • Create AI-assisted tools and agent workflows that shorten design-to-code cycles
  • Translate designers' intent into clean, reusable front-end code
  • Build LLM and agent integrations into internal developer tooling
  • Prototype new ideas for the future of design systems and move the strongest into production
  • Embed accessibility standards into components and AI-assisted processes
  • Write documentation that both people and AI agents can consume
  • Take part in code reviews, design critiques, and architecture discussions
  • Investigate and fix reported issues from internal teams
  • Rotate through occasional on-call duty for bugs and outages

What they asked for

  • Undergraduate degree in a computing discipline or equivalent hands-on experience
  • At least five years building front-end software, including upkeep of a design system or shared UI platform
  • Fluency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript plus modern component frameworks such as React
  • Track record of structuring maintainable front-end systems for complicated apps
  • Practical experience using AI/ML services, such as model APIs or automation pipelines, inside a development process
  • Working knowledge of WCAG and ARIA and how to apply them in reusable code
  • Ability to work with design, product, and engineering peers and explain technical topics clearly

Nice to have

  • Background creating AI-first developer tooling or generative UI systems
  • History of contributing to large design systems or platform groups at fast-moving companies
  • Comfort with prompt design, assessing LLM output quality, or AI-driven code generation
  • Experience with CI/CD, package release, and distributing design system libraries
  • Solid grasp of unit, visual, and integration testing for UI libraries
