Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer, Growth

The role

This role sits on the Growth team, which handles how people first find Discord on the web and how they are guided through onboarding into active use. The engineer works across frontend and backend systems, reports to a senior engineering manager for Growth, and partners closely with product, design, and data science.

What you would do

• Improve user-facing pages and flows that help people learn about and begin using the product
• Build backend services that deliver fast, dynamic content at large scale
• Move between frontend and backend code wherever a problem requires it
• Plan and execute controlled experiments to gauge effects on acquisition and activation
• Collaborate with product, design, and data teams to surface and act on growth opportunities
• Uphold performance and reliability expectations for public-facing properties
• Produce code that others can easily read, review, and extend

What they asked for

• Five or more years of professional software engineering work
• Deep working knowledge of TypeScript and React, with records of fast frontend delivery
• Hands-on experience with Python and a web framework such as Flask
• Background designing and running A/B tests driven by data
• Ability to own projects from start to finish across the stack
• Sound judgment about when to dig into root causes versus when to ship a good-enough solution

Nice to have

• Prior work on growth-oriented teams focused on activation, onboarding, or acquisition
• Experience with SEO infrastructure or an interest in how search engines and LLMs index web content
• Mobile development experience
