Engineering Manager, Machine Learning (Safety)

The role

This is a people-leadership role heading the team that builds and runs machine learning systems for user safety on a large gaming-focused communication platform. The manager sits at the intersection of engineering, Trust and Safety, policy, and product, owning both the technical direction and the health of production models that make enforcement calls at high volume.

What you would do

• Recruit, mentor, and grow a group of senior ML engineers while fostering accountability and meaningful impact
• Set the technical direction and multi-quarter plan for safety modeling in partnership with product, policy, legal, and analytics peers
• Take models from concept through deployment, including defining capabilities, evaluating quality, and watching operational reliability at scale
• Improve labeling standards, build benchmark datasets, and automate parts of manual investigation work with trust and safety staff
• Help peer engineering managers refine org practices and reinforce the company's working principles
• Stay current on emerging methods and apply those that address difficult technical problems

What they asked for

• Five or more years building or applying ML models as an engineer, data scientist, or applied scientist
• Three or more years managing engineers, including leading a group of at least five
• Demonstrated technical depth in one or more areas such as abuse detection, content classification, behavioral or graph modeling, or LLM-driven classifiers
• Track record of putting machine learning systems into production at significant scale
• Clear written and verbal communication and comfort collaborating across functions
• Comfortable with ambiguity and driven to work through hard problems from first principles to practical solutions
• Willing to write and review code personally when the situation calls for it
