AI Engineer – Forward Deployed Engineering (AI FDE)

The role

This role sits on a customer-facing AI team that runs professional services engagements, helping clients take novel AI applications into production. The engineer works as a trusted technical advisor, partnering with product, engineering, and developer relations, and also supports internal subject matter expert groups. The position is open to remote candidates and aimed at experienced practitioners rather than early-career hires.

What you would do

• Build leading-edge generative AI solutions that draw on the company's internal research
• Take ownership of launching customer-facing and internal generative AI apps into production
• Act as a go-to technical adviser for clients across multiple industries
• Speak at major industry events and contribute to internal and external thought leadership
• Work with product and engineering to inform roadmap priorities

What they asked for

• Hands-on experience building retrieval-augmented generation, multi-agent, text-to-SQL, and fine-tuning systems using frameworks such as HuggingFace, LangChain, or DSPy
• Proven ability to deploy production GenAI applications with rigorous evaluation and performance tuning
• Substantial practical background in data science using standard Python ML libraries
• Experience running production machine learning workloads on a major public cloud (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Graduate degree in a quantitative field or equivalent hands-on experience
• Ability to explain technical ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Strong collaborative mindset and commitment to continuous learning

Nice to have

• Familiarity with the Databricks Intelligence Platform and Apache Spark for large-scale distributed data processing
• Willingness to travel roughly once every one to two months to visit customers
