AI Engineer - FDE (Forward Deployed Engineer)

The role

This is a customer-facing AI engineering position within Databricks' specialized Forward Deployed Engineering team. The role focuses on building and productionizing advanced generative AI applications for enterprise clients while collaborating with product and engineering teams. The engineer will serve as a technical advisor, thought leader, and bridge between customer needs and internal product development.

What you would do

• Design and develop production-grade generative AI solutions addressing diverse customer use cases
• Lead deployment and rollout of consumer-facing and internal generative AI applications
• Act as trusted technical consultant to customers across multiple business domains
• Present at industry conferences and establish thought leadership visibility
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product and engineering to influence roadmap priorities
• Evaluate and optimize generative AI systems for production environments

What they asked for

• Minimum five years of professional data science experience, preferably in consulting settings
• Hands-on expertise building generative AI applications including RAG, multi-agent systems, Text2SQL, and fine-tuning
• Proficiency deploying production machine learning systems on major cloud platforms
• Advanced experience with ML frameworks and data science libraries
• Graduate degree in quantitative field or equivalent demonstrated expertise
• Strong ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Nice to have

• Experience with Databricks Intelligence Platform and Apache Spark for distributed data processing
• Familiarity with HuggingFace, LangChain, or DSPy frameworks
