Engineering Manager, Core Entities & Trip Intelligence

The role

This manager role sits inside the Marketplaces Data and AI organization, which builds the data and machine learning systems behind search, host success, and trust. The position covers two linked areas: onboarding company-wide data producers onto a shared semantic model of core objects, and designing a new real-time view of guest trips that other products will depend on.

What you would do

• Coach producer teams through entity onboarding, clearing data quality blockers and ambiguous schemas
• Make the technical calls on the trip object's structure, event taxonomy, streaming design, and safe handling of conversational content
• Work alongside compute and data infrastructure groups to push forward real-time processing capabilities
• Validate the signal layer against concrete needs from trip support, support triage, and host AI teams
• Review designs for serving layers, streaming pipelines, and cross-system identity mapping
• Coordinate roadmap sequencing and dependency escalations with a principal engineer and a program manager
• Lead and grow a group of around seven engineers, including their long-term career progression
• Present platform progress in executive program reviews

What they asked for

• Nine or more years in the industry, with at least three to five years managing engineers
• Degree at bachelor's, master's, or doctoral level in a computing or data-related discipline
• Grounding in data engineering or platform work, including entity design, schema changes, and data agreements
• Working knowledge of distributed systems spanning batch and streaming, online and offline serving, or event-driven designs
• Track record in cross-functional platform efforts where influence matters more than formal authority
• Experience starting systems from an early schema or spec rather than maintaining existing ones
• Ability to judge what should live in shared infrastructure versus a single product team
• Strong communication with executives and with the producer and consumer teams it connects
